Problems related to the experimental non-destructive evaluation (NDE)
the fibre-reinforced ceramic material C/C-SiC fabric are discussed. Th
e detectability and the analysis by means of NDE is described for dama
ged caused by localised oxidation. The NDE methods used in this invest
igation were mechanical vibration, pulse thermography, ultrasonics (US
). and X-ray transmission. Quantitative evaluation of these methods sh
ows that a good correlation between frequency change in the mechanical
vibration ann attenuation in US C-scan tl ns obtained We also found t
hat the damage affects thermal diffusivity.
