RENAL ONCOCYTOMA - DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPE UTIC CONSEQUENCES

The angiographic findings (hypovascularity, spokewheel phenomenon, luc ent rim, linear course of vessels) and CT features (central scar, hype rdense without contrast medium) of 20 patients with renal oncocytomas were analyzed. Simultaneously seven patients with renal cell carcinoma preoperatively misdiagnosed as oncocytoma were compared and criticall y discussed. Preoperatively, reliable differentiation of renal oncocyt oma and renal carcinoma is not possible. Nevertheless, in the presence of features typical for oncocytoma the operative strategy should be ' 'kidney-preserving surgery''.
