Ixodid ticks were collected during February of each year from 1983-199
2 from bontebok and grey rhebok in the Bontebok National Park, Western
Cape Province. When available other mammals as well as ground-nesting
birds and leopard tortoises were examined. Eleven tick species were r
ecovered. Rhipicephalus nitens followed by Rhipicephalus glabroscutatu
m and an lxodes sp. (near I. pilosus) were the most abundant, while Am
blyomma marmoreum infested the widest host range. The larvae of three
hot flies were also collected. Gedoelstia so. and Strobiloestrus sp. l
arvae were recovered from bontebok and grey rhebok and larvae of Oestr
us ovis only from grey rhebok.
