Abstract
Phase diagram of the Al-Mg system has been calculated from thermodynam ic data including new recently completed measurements of the liquid ph ase and the critical assessment of literature data on solid alloys and phase equilibria. The calculated phase diagram is in good agreement w ith the previously published experimental results and assessments not accepting the existence of the ''R'' phase in that system. In view of several versions of the Al-Mg phase diagram in the literature, additio nal thermodynamic and phase equilibrium studies in the conflicting reg ion, close to 50 at. % Mg in the solid state, should be undertaken.
