Abstract
The cellular pattern formation during 1D experiment of directional sol idification is treated as composed of two different phenomena: a) fund amental undulation of solid/liquid interface resulting from bifurcatio n phenomenon b) some disfigurements of the undulation resulting from c oarsening of cells each corresponding to the equation describing the m otion of inhomogeneous' pendulum. The solution to above equations is a pplied to the shape description for the cells existing in four differe nt regions: finite cells region, doublets, deep cells and gothic cells within predendritic region of growth rates.
