Sa. Shalnova et al., HYPERTENSION AND LEFT-VENTRICULAR HYPERTROPHY IN LIQUIDATORS OF CONSEQUENCES OF THE CHERNOBYL NUCLEAR ACCIDENT, Kardiologia, 38(6), 1998, pp. 48-50
Echocardiography was used for the study of prevalence of left ventricu
lar hypertrophy in 839 liquidators of consequences of the Chernobyl nu
clear accident. Prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy (left ventr
icular myocardial mass 134 g/m(2)) was 10,3, 13,4 and 22,5% in liquida
tors with normal blood pressure, borderline hypertension and hypertens
ion, respectively. Liquidators with normal blood pressure had signific
antly greater left ventricular myocardial mass than normotensive men f
rom general population while liquidators and nonliquidators with hyper
tension had equal values of this parameter.
