A trajectory simulation approach has been used to calculate sea spray
dispersion above the ocean surface as a function of droplet size, emis
sion rate, and meteorological conditions. By numerically simulating th
e stochastic turbulent trajectories of a large number of ejected sea s
pray droplets of various sizes and ejection speeds, the vertical profi
le of sea spray concentration was deduced from the average residence t
ime of the droplets in each of a set of horizontal layers within the f
irst 10 m above the ocean surface.
