M. Fukuhara et al., SYNTHESIS OF TUBES OF A MAGNESIUM-RICH CARBONATE AND OF ITS OXIDE DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 81(10), 1998, pp. 2746-2748
A new method to synthesize a hollow structure containing calcium and m
agnesium oxides is proposed. The method involves three processes: Firs
t, magnesium carbonate is formed around needlelike aragonite in an aut
oclave using urea. Second, the needlelike aragonite is removed with hy
drochloric acid, and hollow magnesium carbonate is obtained. Third, th
e hollow magnesium carbonate is heated to form a product containing ma
gnesium and calcium oxides without its shape being altered.
