Photoinduced polymerization and photoinduced diffusion of molecular ox
ygen in thin C-60 films irradiated by femtosecond laser pulses are inv
estigated. A comparison of the Raman scattering and absorbed energy sp
ectra and the irradiation doses required to observe photopolymerizatio
n using continuous-wave radiation and femtosecond pulses shows that th
e efficiency of both photoinduced processes decreases considerably in
the latter case. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S0021-3640(9
