FROM UNIVERSITY-INDUSTRY INTERFACES TO THE MAKING OF A SCIENCE PARK -FLORIANOPOLIS, SOUTHERN BRAZIL

The Federal University of Santa Catarina, Florianopolis, Southern Braz il, has made a substantial effort to link with the productive sector, culminating in the construction of the science park, Park Alfa. This p rocess, led by the CERTI Foundation, is analysed with a combination of network and transaction theories. As a result, a new definition of in novation and, correspondingly, of science park is arrived at. The deve lopment of the science park is discussed against the geographical and historical background of the region and the evolution of the Universit y. Recommendations are made on how to improve an already satisfactory pattern of university-industry relations, taking into account the Cabr al-Dahab Science Park Management Paradigm.
