Vs. Tsypin et al., ION-TRANSPORT IN TOKAMAK PLASMAS WITH ION BANANA ORBITS SQUEEZED BY ALFVEN WAVES, Physical review letters, 81(16), 1998, pp. 3403-3406
Kinetic or slow Alfven waves, which can be driven in a tokamak plasma
by mode conversion, were earlier shown to be useful for wave current d
rive and plasma heating, for creating reversed shear configurations, a
nd for the formation and maintenance of edge and internal transport ba
rriers due to their small radial localizations. Kinetic Alfven waves c
an also induce radial electric fields and provide a mechanism for sque
ezing the banana orbits of ions in weakly collisional plasmas of tokam
aks. It is shown that the radial electric field, induced by Alfven wav
es, under some conditions has a nonlinear dependence on the radio-freq
uency absorbed power. [S0031-9007(98)07433-X].
