Abstract
During the production of aluminium there are a number of processes fro m which fume is generated such as from pot lines, anode forming and an ode baking. In the anode forming process, fume is generated from the f ollowing equipment, which make up the green carbon plant: Pitch Anode paste mixers Paste conveyor Anode forming tanks Pitch storage vessels Such fume contains a number of contaminants, i.e. tar, benzene (B.T.X. ), fluorides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (P.A.H.) and particulat e, all requiring strict control to satisfy ever tightening legislation . This paper by M. Gale, Hosokawa Mikropul, UK describes the general p rinciple of operation of a proven turnkey fume scrubbing system for us e with the above process. It highlights important considerations when designing such a system as well as the benefits from incorporating spe cific design features to enhance performance and scrubbing efficiency.
