The magnetostriction constant and forced volume expansion have been me
asured in amorphous melt-spun ribbons of composition Fe88Zr7B4Cu1, Fe8
7.2Zr7.4B4.3Cu1.1, Fe86Zr7B6Cu1, and Fe85Zr7B6Cu2. The values obtained
show that the volume expansion plays the most important role at room
temperature. The magnetic character of these samples was also estimate
d from the Arrott plots at room temperature and from the thermal depen
dence of the magnetization. As has been found, the volume contribution
decreases with the Curie temperature, whereas the saturation magnetos
triction contribution increases. The results measured are also related
with the previously reported stress dependence of the Curie temperatu
