A patient with stage D prostate cancer (PSA 122 ng/ml) with bone metas
tases in the pelvis was treated with radical prostatectomy, hormonal t
reatment, bone resection of the sacrum and ilium, radiation therapy an
d an experimental therapy with WF10. He lives meanwhile nine years aft
er diagnosis without any evidence of disease and an undetectable PSA.
WF10 is an aqueous solution of the tetrachlorodecaoxygen anion complex
(TCDO), a chlorite-peroxide reaction product with the ability to stim
ulate immunocompetent cells including natural killer cells. It remains
unclear whether an effect of TCDO is a rational part of the long-term
survival of our patient. The possible effect of TCDO on prostate carc
inoma cells is presently evaluated by a phase II study in patients wit
h biochemical relapse after radical prostatectomy.
