Abstract
We show how the bulk band conductivity and density of states of an ele ctron gas in a general two-dimensional periodic potential and magnetic field can be calculated using the recursive Green-function method. Co mputational efficiency is maximized by using the gauge symmetry of the problem. As an example we show the conductivity and density of states for a superlattice displaying the recursive Hofstader's-butterfly spe ctrum.
