The microstructure of PPV is very efficiently modified by partial oxid
ation of the sulfinyl precursor polymer towards PPV. Controlled oxidat
ion leads to a copolymer with sulfinyl and sulfonyl groups. The sulfin
yl groups can be eliminated selectively yielding PPV with restricted c
onjugation lengths. The optical properties of the obtained conjugated
polymers change linearly with the amount in introduced sp(3) defects w
hile the efficiencies of photoluminescence rise also linearly and cons
iderably.
