Sc. Whiston et Tl. Sexton, A REVIEW OF SCHOOL COUNSELING OUTCOME RESEARCH - IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE, Journal of counseling and development, 76(4), 1998, pp. 412-426
In this review, the authors summarize school counseling outcome resear
ch published between 1988 and 1995. Gysbers and Henderson's (1994) com
prehensive developmental guidance model served as the organizing model
through which the status of empirical literature regarding school cou
nseling is examined. Results indicated that research focused more on r
emediation activities as compared to preventive interventions. This re
view found tentative support far career planning, group counseling, so
cial skill training activities, and peer counseling. Practical implica
tions and future research direction are drawn from these conclusions.
