Abstract
During the last decade a genetic approach based on the Arabidopsis 'tr iple response' to the hormone ethylene has allowed the identification of numerous components of the signal transduction pathway. Cloning of the genes and biochemical analysis of the proteins that they encode ar e uncovering the molecular mechanisms that allow a plant cell to perce ive and respond to this gaseous regulator of plant growth/stress respo nses.
