The microwave dielectric properties of Y2Ba(Cu1-xZnx)O-5(0 less than o
r equal to x less than or equal to 1) solid solutions, prepared by the
solid state reaction method, were studied in relation to the amount o
f Zn substitutions, and measured using the Hakki and Coleman method. T
he epsilon(r) and the tau(f) increased slightly, and the Q.f values ch
anged nonlinearly as the amount of Zn substitution was increased. In p
articular, it is shown that improved microwave dielectric properties w
ith Q.f = 110665 GHz; epsilon(r) = 14.2 and epsilon(f) = -41.5 ppm/deg
rees C are obtained for samples with x = 0.5, which also have few pore
s and high relative density. Thus, it was concluded that the Q.f value
s were closely related to the presence of pores in the samples.
