It is shown in a single case-study that the request for supervision im
plicates a double-bind similar to the structure of symptom-formation.
It is recommended to conceive the request for supervision as a symptom
in which real and serious causes and unsolved latent conflicts in the
management of the organization is expressed in a condensed way. If th
e supervisor does not analyse the request for supervision he takes unc
onsciousely the risk to take over the role of a vicarious management f
unction and gets involved in a serious paradoxon: on the one hand he s
urpasses the barriers of his professional role, on the other hand he i
s subjected to the barriers that are connected with the unsolved confl
icts in the leadership of the organization.
