Abstract
Some 1-benzyl-2-cyanimino- and 1-benzyl-2-nitroimino-1,2-dihydropyridi nes were synthesized as new potential antiulcer agents. Some of these compounds exhibited significant antisecretory activity in the Shay tes t, like 1-(2-chlorobenzyl)-2-cyanimino-1,2-dihydropyridine (3c, ED50 = 1.8 mg/kg po), and some also had a cytoprotective effect, like 1-benz yl-2-cyanimino-1,2-dihydropyridine (3a, ED50 = 10.0 mg/kg po), in a mo dified Robert test, depending on the substitution of the benzyl group.
