The effect of material properties and dimensional changes on the funda
mental resonance frequency of the cymbal transducer has been investiga
ted using the ANSYS(R) finite element software. Vibration mode shapes,
resonance frequencies, and admittance spectra for both air- and water
-loading are calculated. Very good agreement is observed between the m
odeled and experimentally measured admittance spectra in the frequency
range up to 200 kHz, establishing the validity of the model. The calc
ulations show that the fundamental resonance frequency can be manipula
ted easily by changing the cymbal cap material or dimensions.
