CAPGRAS-SYNDROME AND OTHER DELUSIONAL MISIDENTIFICATION SYNDROMES (DMS)

In this contribution the 4 classical types of delusional misidentifica tion syndromes and their subtypes are described and explained: Capgras ' syndrome, Fregoli syndrome, Intermetamorphosis delusion, subjective doubles delusion. In addition the reverse Fregoli syndrome, reverse In termetamorphosis delusion, reverse subjective doubles delusion, subjec tive Capgras' syndrome, subjective Fregoli syndrome and (He-)Autoscopy are introduced. Furthermore the psychopathological classifications ac cording to Christodoulou, Banov and Weinstein are presented. The relev ant findings are summarized, which point to a possible organic etiolog y of these disorders. Problems of research in delusional misidentifica tion syndromes and the importance of these phenomena for clinical work are emphasized.
