Abstract
A mathematical model and a numerical calculation scheme are proposed f or diffusive redistribution of carbon, in the thermal influence zone o f carbon steels and alloys, as a result of surface treatments with hig h-energy sources. Experimental and numerical investigations are report ed of the influence of the interlamellar spacing and of the treatment rate on the depth of the hardened layer.
