S. Dan et M. Nakhla, ANALYSIS, SIMULATION AND TESTS OF INTERFERENCE BETWEEN DIGITAL CARRIERS, International journal of satellite communications, 16(2), 1998, pp. 95-103
Interference caused by a digital carrier or carriers into another digi
tal carrier is a common type of interference in satellite communicatio
n systems. So far this type of interference has generally been assumed
to be noise-like. Since the probability distributions of digital carr
iers and Gaussian noise are dissimilar, the validity of this assumptio
n needs to be re-examined. The mechanism of interference caused by dig
ital carriers has been analysed in this paper for a variety of situati
ons, including single and multiple-carrier interference, wideband inte
rference into a narrowband carrier and narrowband interference into a
wideband carrier. The impact of other types of interference has also b
een evaluated for comparison purposes. The quantitative difference bet
ween the original digital interference and its noise-like equivalent h
as been defined by computer simulation and further verified by laborat
ory tests. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
