A. Fishman et al., ADENOCARCINOMA ARISING FROM THE GASTROINTESTINAL EPITHELIUM IN BENIGNCYSTIC TERATOMA OF THE OVARY, Gynecologic oncology (Print), 70(3), 1998, pp. 418-420
Malignant transformation of benign cystic teratoma of the ovary is rar
e, with an incidence of 1.8%. The commonest malignant neoplasm to deve
lop is squamous carcinoma (80%). Adenocarcinoma occurs with less frequ
ency, and only one of which has ever been cited to be of gastrointesti
nal origin. A 38-year-old female underwent TAH-BSO due to a large righ
t ovarian tumor. Microscopically and immunohistochemically, the tumor
was defined as mucinous adenocarcinoma originating from gastrointestin
al epithelium in benign cystic teratoma. (C) 1998 Academic Press.
