Abstract
Calculations for the kaon capture, electron pair, and hyperon (Y) prod uction reactions, p(K-,e+e-)Y, are made for Y = LAMBDA, SIGMA0, and LA MBDA(1405) using our previously developed crossing and duality constra ined electroproduction model. Because there is no constraint on the mi nimum 4-momentum transferred by the timelike photon (q2 greater-than-o r-equal-to 2M(e)2 is similar to 0), we observe that the low-lying rho, omega and phi vector mesons are kinematically accessible, producing u p to four orders of magnitude enhancement in the theoretical hyperon p roduction cross section. We also discuss the significance and utility of this dramatic enhancement for investigating several important topic s of current interest.
