F. Torrella et al., ULTRASONIC OSTECTOMY FOR THE SURGICAL APPROACH OF THE MAXILLARY SINUS- A TECHNICAL NOTE, The International journal of oral and maxillofacial implants, 13(5), 1998, pp. 697-700
Because of its physical and mechanical properties, the odontologic app
lications of ultrasound are increasing. A new application of odontolog
ic ultrasonic generators involves the lateral approach of the maxillar
y sinus in sinus augmentation. The procedure may provide important adv
antages over conventional ostectomy using diamond drills, as it reduce
s the risk of perforating the Schneiderian membrane, improves vision a
nd hygiene of the operating area, and provides a more conservative and
controlled osseous incision.
