METASTASIZING PLEOMORPHIC ADENOMA - A REPORT OF 3 CASES

Three cases of metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma are described. All th ree had a history of incomplete surgery of the primary tumour and seve ral surgical procedures for local recurrences before systemic metastas es became apparent. The histology of the primary tumour, recurrences a nd metastases mere typical of pleomorphic adenoma. In view of the lack of information in the literature, it is concluded that inadequate sur gical procedures, such as incomplete surgery or enucleation, leading t o multiple recurrences, appear to be a prerequisite for the developmen t of systemic disease.
