Abstract
Gamma-ray detection methods show diffusion of Rn-222 out of otoliths o f orange roughy Hoplostethus atlanticus and variable uptake of Ra-226 into Otoliths of H. atlanticus both of which invalidate the assumption s of closure to Rn-222 diffusion and the constant uptake of 226Ra that are critical to the Pb-210: Ra-226 method of age estimation from otol iths of H. atlanticus.
