Br. Pearson et al., RELATIVE SCALING EXPONENTS OF N-TH-ORDER VELOCITY AND TEMPERATURE STRUCTURE FUNCTIONS, Europhysics letters (Print), 44(2), 1998, pp. 156-161
Scaling exponents of the moments of the instantaneous velocity vector
fluctuation increment, delta q, and its components (delta u, delta v a
nd delta w) are compared with those of the temperature fluctuation inc
rement, delta theta, in the self-preserving region of a cylinder wake.
Across the wake, delta q scaling exponents compare more favorably to
those of delta theta than do delta u with delta theta mainly because d
elta q is interdependent on delta v and delta w. The agreement between
scaling exponents of delta v or delta w with those of delta theta do
not seem to depend on either the local mean shear or R-lambda, althoug
h the individual magnitudes of these exponents increase with R-lambda
and decrease with the local mean shear.
