Because of African-American women's overrepresentation in several hosp
itality-related occupations, hospitality research is uniquely position
ed to make a significant contribution to understanding African-America
n women's work. This paper describes African-American women's particip
ation as employees, managers, and entrepreneurs in the hospitality ind
ustry, as well as the multiple roles African-American families play in
relationship to African-American women's domestic and hospitality wor
k.
