Several kinds of porphyrin/porphyrin, phthalocyanine/phthalocyanine, p
orphyrin/phthalocyanine self-assembled multilayer films-molecular depo
sition (MD) films have been prepared by alternately dip-coating a subs
trate into solution of oppositely charged chromophores. Alternate film
growth was monitored by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The results strongly sug
gest the formation character of layer-by-layer assembly of homogeneous
films. The structures of the MD films have been characterized by quar
tz crystal microbalance (QCM) and polarized UV-Vis spectroscopy. It is
shown that the macroring of the porphyrin and/or phthalocyanine in th
e MD films is orientated with an angle of 38 degrees and 32 degrees wi
th respect to the normal of the substrate respectively.
