EFFECT OF POLYAMINES ON THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF SOME HORTICULTURAL CROPS IN MICROPROPAGATION

The effect of presence of polyamines in the culture medium on the micr opropagation of Acacia, Lycopersicon, Sulcorebutia, and Syringe was in vestigated. When the growth regulator 2iP was omitted from the medium of Syringa, putrescine could partly compensate for the 2iP-stimulated stem elongation. With Acacia an interaction between the growth regulat or (IBA) and putrescine was found. Optimum concentration of putrescine in the media was in the range 0.1-1.0 mM. The response to spermidine was similar to that of putrescine. Spermine had a negative effect at a ll concentrations tested. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights re served.
