Abstract
The basic properties of the perovskite manganite LaMnO3, the mother ma terial of colossal-magnetoresistance manganites, are discussed based o n detailed band-structure calculations and also simple models. After g iving some examples of the successes and the failures of the band-stru cture calculations, we present detailed discussion of the various feat ures of the mutual relation among lattice distortion, electron correla tion, orbital ordering, and magnetic ordering.
