C. Kafetzopoulos et al., SYNTHESIS OF BLOCK TERPOLYMERS OF N-METHYL METHACRYLAMIDE WITH STYRENE AND ISOPRENE BY LIVING RADICAL POLYMERIZATION, Polymer international, 47(2), 1998, pp. 226-230
The synthesis of block terpolymers of N-methyl methacrylamide (NMeMA)
with styrene (St) and isoprene (Is) [poly(NMeMa-b-St-b-Is) and poly(NM
eMA-b-Is-b-St)] was achieved by using heterogeneous living radical pol
ymerization (di-t-butylperoxide-UV, benzene) and high vacuum technique
s. The existence of living macroradicals was detected by electron para
magnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. The terpolymers were not solubl
e in common organic solvents. The formation of polymeric blocks was co
nfirmed by modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC) and IR s
pectroscopy. (C) 1998 Society of Chemical Industry.
