Abstract
The following article analyses the professional figure of the DJ and the issues related to the current Italian Copyright Law provisions, with the aim of pointing out a possible future expansion of the so-called "related rights" category.Nowadays DJs activity is not fully defined by existing copyright law and they are often penalized by strict provisions which deny them the right to copy music pieces for personal purposes. The Author explains how the hoped inclusion of DJs among related right holders, and in particular among performers, involves not only the right for the DJ to perceive a fee for the execution of the so-called "DJ set",but, primarily, the right to create personal copies for professional use of copyright protected material, and reach the aim of acknowledging his role of music industry promoter.
