Abstract
The genus Hemerodromia is reviewed for America north of Mexico. A gene ral diagnosis and a modified description are presented for the genus a nd each of the 13 previously described species. Nine new species are d escribed from America north of Mexico: Hemerodromia burdicki, H. chela ta, H. flexiformis, H. glabella, H. ligata, H. loba, H. reclinata, H. sinclairi, and H. subchelata. Designation of neotypes are made for Hem erodromia empiformis (Say) and H. superstitiosa Say. Designation of le ctotypes are made for the following: H. captus Coquillett; H. coleopho ra Melander; H. haruspex Melander; H. jugulator Melander; H. melanosom a Melander; H. stellaris Melander; H. vates Melander; and, H. vittata Loew. Hemerodromia haruspex Melander 1947 is shown to be a new synonym of H. melanosoma Melander 1947, H. rogatoris Coquillett 1895 a new sy nonym of H. superstitiosa Say 1824, and H. vittata Loew 1862 a new syn onym of H. superstitiosa Say 1824. Previously known only from the Pale arctic Region, H. oratoria (Fallen) was found to be widely distributed in North America. Separate keys to male and female adults, illustrati ons of male terminalia, and known distributions are provided.
