Vb. Chernogorenko et al., REDUCING THE HARMFUL ACTION OF PHOSPHORUS IN FERROCARBON ALLOYS BY ALLOYING, Russian metallurgy. Metally, (2), 1998, pp. 4-10
General principles for neutralizing the harmful effects of phosphorus
are outlined. Instead of deep dephosphorization, phosphorus contents o
f less than 0.2 mass % in the melt are recommended. To avoid brittlene
ss, the phosphorus may be bound in binary or ternary phosphide phases:
Fe-alloying element-P; this sharply reduces the solubility of phospho
rus in alpha and gamma iron. Thermodynamic data and experimental resul
ts confirm these principles.
