The phase composition of Pr-53 at. % Fe alloy after crystallization fr
om melt and Pr-77 at. % Fe alloy after phase transition in the solid s
tate with stepwise annealing (500 hr at 600 degrees C + 30 hr at 800 d
egrees C + 1 hr at 1000 degrees C) is investigated by X-ray and electr
on diffraction methods. On crystallization from melt, the intermetalli
de PrFe2 (C14, MgZn2 type) is formed; phase transition in the solid st
ate, by contrast, yields the intermediate metastable compound PrFe5 wi
th a structure of LuMn5 type, which is a derivative of the C14 Laves s
tructure.
