L. Lannoy et al., COPROSCOPIC SURVEY ON DIGESTIVE AND RESPIRATORY PARASITES OF SHEEP AND GOATS IN CIS-JORDAN (PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES) AREA, Revue de Medecine Veterinaire, 149(8-9), 1998, pp. 823-830
A parasitological study was conducted on 731 sheep and 524 goats in th
e Palestinian Territories in the six districts of Jenin, Tulkarem, Nab
lus-Salfit, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Hebron. In 1994, the total number
s of small ruminants in the Palestinian Territories were around 370,00
0 sheep and 254,000 goats (adults). Faeces samples were collected duri
ng the whole year 1994 and were looked for gastrointestinal parasites
and lungworms. The results show that animals under 6 months of age hav
e few parasites (except Coccidia) and that parasitism is always more i
mportant in goats than in sheep. A comparison of the prevalences of in
fection between the districts is done. The geographical and climatic f
actors are studied. For the district of Nablus, including the majority
of the animals, the increasing prevalences of infection by the lungwo
rms are: Dictyocaulus, Protostrongylus and Muellerius; and by the stro
ngyles : Marshallagia, Nematodirus and other Trichostrongylidae. Tapew
orms (Moniezia) are also present.
