Abstract
The shadowing (or long term) statistics of a wireless system have a la rge impact on overall performance. The authors show experimentally tha t the inherent path diversity of a direct sequence spread spectrum sys tem will reduce the effect of longterm envelope variation due to shado wing. This will result in a network with more homogeneous quality-of-s ervice, reduce handovers, and improve capacity.
