Abstract
Addition of trace SO2 (ca, 8 ppm) to a reactant gas containing NO subs tantially enhanced the oxidation rate of carbon black mixed with a Pt/ SiO2 catalyst, which is attributed to SO3 (or H2SO4) catalyzing the ox idation of carbon by NO2.
