Our time-implicit fluid/Particle-In-Cell (PIC) code DYNAID [1] is appl
ied to problems relevant for applied-B ion diode operation. We present
simulations of the laser ion source, which will soon be employed on t
he SABRE accelerator at SNL, and of the dynamics of the anode source p
lasma in the applied electric and magnetic fields. DYNAID is still a t
est-bed for a higher-dimensional simulation code. Nevertheless, the co
de can already give new theoretical insight into the dynamics of plasm
as in pulsed power devices. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights
