Abstract
In this technical paper a summary of the available in situ spectroelec trochemical methods, their basic principles, their typical application s, and their limitations is given. With respect to the names of the me thods and usual abbreviations, the paper follows the literature as far as possible, but tries to point out inconsistencies. An introductory section gives a summary of the basic equations and introduces the IUPA C recommendations for quantities and symbols.
