DETERMINISTIC ENTANGLEMENT OF 2 TRAPPED IONS

We have prepared the internal states of two trapped ions in both the B ell-like singlet and triplet entangled states. In contrast to all othe r experiments with entangled states of either massive particles or pho tons, we do this in a deterministic fashion, producing entangled state s on demand without selection. The deterministic production of entangl ed states is a crucial prerequisite for large-scale quantum computatio n. [S0031-9007(98)07411-0].
