Abstract
Certain -alpha-methylene-gamma-phenyl-gamma-butyrolactones were synthe sized and evaluated for their anticancer activity. These compounds dem onstrated a strong growth inhibitory activity against leukemia cell li nes but are relatively inactive against non-small cell lung cancers an d CMS cancers. The anticancer potency for aryl portion is in an order of quinoline> 8-hydroxyquinoline> 2-methylquinoline>> naphthalene>> be nzene. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
