Ha. Jackson et Pj. Barber, RESOLUTION OF METASTATIC CALCIFICATION IN THE PAWS OF A CAT WITH SUCCESSFUL DIETARY-MANAGEMENT OF RENAL HYPERPARATHYROIDISM, Journal of Small Animal Practice, 39(10), 1998, pp. 495-497
A 10-year-old ovariohysterectomised domestic shorthaired cat was prese
nted with multiple nodular calcifications of the footpads and interdig
ital spaces. Renal insufficiency was diagnosed by routine biochemistry
and urinalysis. Additionally, the cat had a calcium and phosphorus so
lubility product greater than 70 mg/dl and elevated circulating parath
yroid hormone. Dietary management of the renal disease resulted in a r
eduction in the mineral solubility product and normalisation of the co
ncentration of parathyroid hormone accompanied by concurrent resolutio
n of the pedal lesions.
