Abstract
Carbothermal reduction and nitridation of titanium dioxide was investi gated by X-ray diffraction and gas chromatography. The results indicat ed that anatase was transformed to rutile phase before it reacted to p roduce TIN. The solid products of the reaction are TiN and TiC. The fr action of TiN in the solid product may he increased by increasing the reaction temperature or decreasing the initial molar ratio of C/TiO2. The gas products of the reaction are mostly CO and trace amount of CO2 . The concentration of CO2 in the evolved gas can be decreased by incr easing the reaction time or increasing the reaction temperature.
