Abstract
Hepatitis B is transmitted by three main routes: contact with blood an d body fluids, sexual contacts, and perinatally from the infected moth er to her newborn baby. Horizontal transmission within the household o f an infected person is common, especially in families with infants, i n such situations unnoticed contacts with blood probably account for m ost of the transmissions.
